The two major dilemmas when it comes to men’s shorts are "what style" and "what should I  wear them with". As far as style is concerned you now have the choice of baggy men’s shorts for say the beach and if fitted is your style, then pick dress shorts for that slimmer effect.
Length is critical a longer look is a safe choice for most men’s shorts, about at the middle of the knee for dress longer for the beach. One of the big problems for most men is that the leg is cut too wide at the bottom of the shorts in relation to the waist. After years of struggling to find the correct measurements take it from  one who has endless looked you will best be served by getting the right waist and then going to a tailor to alter the width of the leg so you don’t look like you have peg legs as my wife would say.
The other side of the coin is short shorts which are not a very good choice either an inch or two above the knee is more than enough. The days of short men’s shorts are way over. As for the second dilemma - what to wear with men’s shorts, that all depends on the occasion and of course the weather. In the summer time for all sports men’s shorts are great for golfing, hiking sailing you name it the fashions are so varied from men’s board shorts for the beach and surfing to dress shorts for evening. One of my favorites is a nice Tommy Bahamas Shirt free flowing so comfortable and cool, matched with dress shorts this outfit can be worn with stylish leather sandals or dress loafers no socks of course.
It wasn't until around World War II, when many soldiers were in tropical locations, did adult men begin to wear shorts. Before then, guys had to endure the summer in long pants. Thankfully those days are over and now men’s shorts are a wardrobe mainstay no matter where you might live. Men’s Shorts don't have to be dull either there are so many color combination's you can be really creative.
